IMAGNARY HOUSE is a publisher and bookstore of creative children’s and YA fiction and non-fiction in South Africa. Founded in April 2016 by Brad Harris, who built the premise of Imagnary House on the back of his experience working with traditional publishers and self-publishing agents. Noticing a hole left in Africa for children’s and YA literature, he focused his own literary passion towards this end… enter, Imagnary House.

With this heart for publishing in South Africa, we knew releasing books only in English and Afrikaans wasn’t enough, and that a necessary addition to our toolkit was being able to publish in indigenous African languages. We’re very happy to say that we’ve begun this journey by making our publication list open to Xhosa manuscripts and translations, and we soon hope to take on Zulu and Sotho (currently we are on the hunt for both Afrikaans and African language translators).

One day, we hope to make the children’s books that we love available in every part of our beautiful country. We believe that enjoying the ability to read is the right of a child from all languages, areas, cultures, and backgrounds.
